Ready To Go by Republica Cover Version

Ready To Go was released in the UK on 15th April 1996. Then again in 1997, 2007 and 2020. There are currently 5 different versions of the song.

Ready To Go was written by:

  • Saffron
  • Tim Dorney
  • Andy Todd
  • Johnny Male

Trivia about the band.

Saffron’s real name is Samantha Marie Sprackling. Prior to being a musician she appeared in the music video of ‘The One And Only’ by Chesney Hawkes (Released 1991) and also as the singer/dancer in British Dance group “N-Joi’s” single ‘Mindflux’. Although it’s doubtful she provided the actual vocals for that dance track. Saffron sings about a “Craic” in the song, but what is a craic exactly? It is an Irish terms pronounced “Crack” that means to enjoy yourself / to have a good time.

You sleep, too deep, one week is another world.
Big mouth, drop out, you get what you deserve.

Tubthumping by Chumbawamba Cover Version

The song “Tubthumping” was released in August 1997 from Chumbawamba’s eight studio album album “Tubthumper”. Reaching number two in the UK charts it is in the key of D Major.
Thought of as a throw away song to some this is a massive favourite of all our clients as you will see in the above video with everyone pitching in to chant and sing-along in the chorus. Some folks even make up their own dance routines too at our live performances.

For most people this is probably the only song they’d know by Chumbawamba, yet the follow up single “Amnesia” faired well in the UK charts too hitting the top ten. Do you remember it though? No, us neither 🙂 ….Get it, remember amnesia? Ha-ha…..

Here’s another video of us performing this massive 90’s song

Tubthumping Lyrics

We’ll be singing, when we’re winning, we’ll be singing

I get knocked down, but I get up again,
You ain’t never gonna keep me down

Pissing the night away

He drinks a whiskey drink, he drinks a vodka drink, he drinks a lager drink, he drinks a cider drink.
Sings the songs that remind him of the good times.
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times.

Oh, Danny Boy, Danny Boy, Danny Boy

I get knocked down, but I get up again,
You ain’t never gonna keep me down

Pissing the night away

He drinks a whiskey drink, he drinks a vodka drink, he drinks a lager drink, he drinks a cider drink.
Sings the songs that remind him of the good times.
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times.

Don’t cry for me, next door neighbour

I get knocked down, but I get up again,
You ain’t never gonna keep me down

Chords to Thumthumping are:

Chorus – D G D G D G A

Verse – Em G D A

Lyrics to The Day We Caught The Train

I never saw it as the start, it’s more a change of heart.
Rapping on the windows, whistling down the chimney pot.
Blowing off the dust in the room where I forgot.
I laid my plans in solid rock.

Stepping through the door like a troubadour,
whiling just an hour away.
Looking at the trees on the roadside, feeling it’s a holiday.

You and I should ride the coast and wind up in our favourite coats
just miles away.
Roll a number, write another song like, Jimmy heard the day he caught the train.

Ooh lala, ooh lala.

He sips another rum and coke, told a dirty joke.
Walking like Groucho, sucking on a number 10.
Rolling on the floor with the cigarette burns walked in.
I’ll miss the crush and I’m home again.

Stepping through the door with the night in store,
whiling just an hour away.
Step into the sky in the starbright, feeling it’s a brighter day.

You and I should ride the coast and wind up in our favourite coats just miles away.
Roll a number, write another song like, Jimmy heard the day he caught the train.

Ooh lala, ooh lala

You and I should ride the tracks and find ourselves just wading through tomorrow.
And you and I, when we’re coming down, we’re only getting back
And you know I feel no sorrow.

Ooh lala, ooh lala.
When you find that things are getting wild, don’t you want days like these.
Ooh lala, ooh lala.

Most of the songs lyrics are inspired by the 1973 rock opera Quadrophenia written by rock band The Who. Which then became a film in 1979 starring Phil Daniels (Later of Blur Parklife fame) in the lead roll as Mod ‘Jimmy Cooper’. Lyrics like “Jimmy heard the day he caught the train” and “Ride the coast” (referring to Jimmy riding his Lambretta mod scooter to Brighton at weekends to get into fights with Rockers) make this obviously so.

Even the official video for the single features Quadrophenia esque mod scooters being driven around paying homage back once again.

Ocean Colour Scene were based in Moseley Birmingham (B13 postcode) and even named their second album “Moseley Shoals”

Moseley Shoals singles:

  • You’ve Got It Bad
  • The Riverboat Song
  • The Day We Caught the Train
  • The Circle

The Day We Caught the Train  was released 3rd June 1996 and entered the charts at number 4 in the UK charts on 9th June 1996 which was its highest position. Ocean Colour Scene were a part of the mod revival and Britpop scene in the mid 1990’s along side Oasis, Blur, Supergrass, Pulp, Sleeper, Elastica etc.

The band supported Oasis on part of their 1995 tour. OCS performed at Balloch Castle Country Park in August 1996 with Oasis, Cast (Featuring John Power from The La’s), Heavy Stereo (Gem Archer would later go on to join Oasis as guitarist) Black Grape (Featuring Shaun Ryder from The Happy Mondays, Manic Street Preachers and The Bootleg Beatles.

Ocean Colour Scene became a household name in the mid 90’s when their song ‘The Riverboat Song’ was used whenever celebrities walked through the audience on ‘TFI Friday’ to be interviewed by Chris Evans

Wonderwall Lyrics.

Verse 1
Today is gonna be the day, that they’re gonna throw it back to you.
By now you should’ve somehow realised what you gotta do.
I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now.

Backbeat the word is on the street that the fire in your heart is out.
I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, but you never really had a doubt.
I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now.

Bridge 1
And all the roads we have to walk are winding.
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding.
There are many things that I would like to say to you but I don’t know how.

Chorus 1
Because maybe, you’re gonna be the one that saves me.
And after all you’re my wonderwall.

Verse 2
Today was gonna be the day but they’ll never throw it back to you.
By now you should’ve somehow realised what you’re not to do.
I don’t believe that anybody, feels the way I do about you now

Bridge 2
And all the roads that lead you there were winding.
And all the lights that light the way are blinding.
There are many things that I would like to say to you, but I don’t know how.

Chorus 2
I said maybe, you’re gonna be the one that saves me.
And after all you’re my wonderwall.

I said maybe (I said maybe).
You’re gonna be the one that saves me.
And after all, you’re my wonderwall.

I said maybe (I said maybe)
You’re gonna be the one that saves me (saves me)
