Song 2 by Blur A Cover of

Arguably the biggest song of the Britpop Reunion set, Song 2 by Blur makes everyone go utterly nuts and lose all inhibitions. Sometimes simply known as “Woo-hoo” this track is from Blur’s eponymous fifth studio album and was its second release. Song 2 reached number 2 in the UK charts and is two minutes and two seconds long featuring two verses and two choruses. It also has two bass lines playing over a section of the chorus. That’s a whole lot of TWO’s don’t you think? Prior to this Beetlebum was released and then afterwards “On Your Own” from the same album. Some song lyrics from Song 2 by Blur and about the official music video.

A lot of what Damon Albarn is singing during Song Two is just inaudible nonsense in the chorus. But from what we can make out some of the lyrics to the chorus are “Woo-hoo well I feel heavy metal, Woo-hoo and I’m pins and I’m needle.”

The bands video to Song to features them in a small room with not much lighting featuring a wind turbine blowing at them. They are then thrown around the room using spring pull cables. The music video was directed by Sophie Muller who also directed the Blur singles Beetlebum, On Your Own and Tender.

The original was a huge hit by Oxford based Britpop musicians Gaz Coombes (Guitar / Vocals), Danny Goffey (Drums), Mick Quinn (Bass & Backing Vocals), Rob Coombes (Keyboards) back in 1995. It was the fifth release from their debut album ‘I Should CoCo’ after Caught By The Fuzz, Mansize Rooster, Lose It and Lenny. Alright was actually a double A-Side release with ‘Time’ on the flip side. It peaked at number 2 in the UK singles charts. Lyrics to Alright by Super grass and info on the official music video.

The lyrics to the song just basically tell a story of what it was like to be young, going out. Getting into scrapes and a little bit of fun trouble along the way. “We are young, we run green, keep our teeth, nice and clean, see our friends, see the sights, feel alright. ”

The official music video see’s Supergrass cycling round the Welsh Italian-esque village of Portmeirion on a moving bed and a 1970’s Raleigh Chopper bicycle. Portmeirion was made famous as the fictional unknown setting for the 1960s TV show ‘The Prisoner’ featuring Patrick McGoohan as ‘Number 6.’

Supergrass have reformed again just very recently and have now split up again. They continue to tour to this very day around the UK and Europe as solo artists.

Lyrics

Always when we fight, I try to make you laugh, till everything’s forgotten, I know you hate that.
Always when we fight, I kiss you once or twice, and everything’s forgotten, I know you hate that.
I love you Sunday sun, the week’s not yet begun and everything is quiet, and it’s always.

You and me always and forever, You and me always and forever.
Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba it was always, you and me always

You tell me I’m a real man, and try to look impressed, not very convincing, but you know I love it.
Then we watch TV, ’til we fall asleep, Not very exciting, but it’s you and.

Me and we’ll always, be together
You and me always and forever
Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba it was always

You and me always and forever, You and me always and forever.
Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba it was always, you and me always.

Often mislabelled as Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve this song was released 16th June 1997 and has had one heck of long story in and out of court due to it sampling The Rolling Stones The Last Time cover by Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra.

The Verve actually split up for a short while after the single “History” was released in 1995. A short while after they were joined for a very brief period by Suede guitarist Bernard Butler before Nick McCabe rejoined. This single comes from the highly acclaimed album Urban Hymns (Released 29th September 1997). Richard Ashcroft currently writes and tours as a solo artist and performs The Verve songs at live shows too.

Disco 2000 by Pulp

A massive hit for Pulp and a much loved song by all of our clients and their guests Disco 2000 by Pulp (aka Deborah) always gets everyone up onto the dance-floor. We’ve been performing this Pulp song since we formed in 2014 and we perform it very closely to how Pulp perform it live. Britpop Reunion also perform the other Pulp hit Common People too and it always goes down equally brilliant. Late bloomers Pulp (Previous known as “Arabicus Pulp”) struggled with nearly 15 years of obscurity until they picked up steam when “His n’ Hers” (Featuring the singles Babies, Do You Remember The First Time, Lipgloss and Razzmatazz) was released in 1994.

This was followed up by ‘Different Class’ being released in October of 1995 and commercial chart success and fame was finally theirs. Disco 2000 was the third of four singles released from the Pulp album Different Class. Common People, Mis-Shapes / Sorted for E’s & Wizz (Double A-Side) and Something Changed all charted very well in the UK singles charts. Information about the Blur song Park life

Parklife was written by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree. It was produced by Stephen Street, John Smith and Blur themselves. The single was released on 22nd August 1994 and strangely only reached number 10 in the UK charts.

It features guest vocalist Phil Daniels from Quadrophenia fame singing the verse with Damon Albarn taking over on the bridge and chorus. The song is taken from the third Blur album (Previous albums were ‘Modern Life Is Rubbish’ and ‘Leisure’) of the same name ‘Parklife’ released on 25th April 1994.

Other songs released from the Parklife album include “Girls & Boys”, “To the End” and “End of a Century”.

Blur have reformed again for some live shows in 2023 including Wembley Stadium and some warm up gigs in May 2023.

James Song Sit Down

The James song Sit Down cover is an absolute indie classic banger. The 1991 release is the most well known version (The original meandered on for a massive seven plus minutes before it was chopped down into the radio friendly pop song it’s known as now). It has a huge chorus that everyone loves to singalong too and throw their arms around their friends. (Or in some cases just sit on the floor to). You probably didn’t even realise that the song only has the same three chords throughout. It has the same three chords for the verse, bridge, chorus and middle 8. Simply E – A – B. Sit Down can also be played quite nicely on a guitar with a capo on the 4th fret using the chords C – F – G.

Lyrics to Sit Down by James

Verse 1

I sing myself to sleep, a song from the darkest hour
Secrets I can’t keep, inside of the day
Swing from high to deep, extremes of sweet and sour
Hope that God exists, I hope I pray

Bridge 1

Drawn by the undertow, my life is out of control
I believe this wave will bear my weight, so let it flow

Chorus

Oh sit down x3
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy

Verse 2

Now I’m relieved to hear, that you’ve been to some far out places
It’s hard to carry on, when you feel all alone

Bridge 2

Now I’ve swung back down again, it’s worse than it was before
If I hadn’t seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Chorus
Oh sit down x 3
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy

Middle 8
Those who feel the breath of sadness, sit down next to me.
Who find they’re touched by madness, sit down next to me.
Those who find themselves ridiculous, sit down next to me.
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears x 4….Down

Chorus
Oh sit down x 3
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy, down

She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge. She studied sculpture at Saint Martin’s College that’s where I caught her eye…..I said in that case, I’ll have rum and coca-cola she said fine. And then in thirty seconds time she said. I wanna live like common people, I want to do whatever common people do. And then dance and drink and screw, because there’s nothing else to do.
