Britpop singer Andy Starkey is a massive Jarvis Cocker and Pulp fan and always has been. Pulp bass player Steve Mackey dies aged 56
Unfortunately Pulp bass player Steve Mackey died on 2nd March 2023 aged 56. He performed with Pulp from 1989 until the band split in 2002. He then joined them again on the 2011/2012 reunion tour. Steve wasn’t due to perform live with Pulp during the 2023 reunion and is replaced by Andrew McKinney who has previously performed with Jarvis on his new band the “Jarv Is” project. He stated that he was too busy with other work. No cause of death has still been announced for Steve Mackey. He is best known for playing Fender Jazz bass guitars with Pulp.

When you’ve been around as long as Britpop artist Andy Starkey you end up with a great many stories to tell. Throughout the 90s Andys bands toured extensively supporting bands like Sleeper, The Bluetones. Also indie bands Shed Seven and Echobelly. Britpop Singer Andrew Starkey used to drink in The Good Mixer, Camden chatting with Dave Rowntree and Alex James from Blur. As well as various members of Menswear and other Britpop heroes. Back in the day Andy was always seen sporting Fred Perry polo shirts, Adidas Gazelle trainers and tracksuit tops. Similarly he still does to this very day. Britpop bass player Andy Starkey plays a number of Fender Precision bass guitars live. Including his famous 1994 Foto Flame period guitar. Yes, Andy really is still living in the 90s a few decades later.

As we drove to the festival location we were flabbergasted to see so many huge posters advertising our festival appearance there. It’s fantastic when a festival puts this much effort in to promote a live event. This is why the event sold out in record time.
